Studio1 is a multi-window application, some windows are resizable and all windows are free positionable on any part of the screen or screens in multi-monitor system.

Studio1 is a multi-session application, you can run as many sessions you want. Each session controls a specific hardware.

Each session has its graphics settings and the audio is routed to a specific soundcard for the audio output

Studio 1 collects the legacy of WRplus including many tips from its large user base; however Studio 1 is very different in its internal architecture and it is vastly superior in many areas. Thanks to its high-quality fractional resampler Studio 1 accepts an arbitrary input sample rate, making possible easy interconnection with virtually all the present (and future) SDR receiving hardware. Studio 1 supports the standard Winrad ExtIO*.dll interface library (by I2PHD) plus a proprietary, improved one (S_ExtIO). This means that Studio 1 can work in combination with any hardware for which an ExtIO library exist.

RFSpace SDR-IQ and SDR-14
SRL QS1R
USRP N200
FunCube Dongle and almost all the soundcard based receivers (Softrocks etc.)

Multiple application instance - multiple virtual receiver concept

You can launch an arbitrary number of Studio 1 instances: every instance can handle a different hardware receiver and stores/recalls its own settings, including "workspaces" (user program windows setups).
But there is more: every Studio 1 instance can run an arbitrary number of "virtual receivers" sharing the same input bandwidth from the hardware, each with its own freely assignable output device. Every virtual receiver stores/recalls its own settings as well and include a main spectrum window, an aux spectrum window (filter window), the RX control window and all the related setting windows.

Modular user interface

The Studio 1 GUI has been designed for maximum flexibility and best screen space exploitation; spectrum windows are resizable.
A proprietary interpolation algorithm provide full-spectrum view at any window size.

RX Modes

Studio 1 features the following receiving modes: AM, SAM (synchronous AM), LSB, USB, DSB, FM (NFM, MFM, WFM, SWFM), CW, USER.
FM mode covers any bandwidth between 0 - 192 KHz with great selectivity; of course the usual options of de-emphasis, post demodulation filter and AFC are available. Stereo Wide FM sub-mode adds a broadcast-grade stereo decoder in the signal path. Radio Data System demodulation/decoding is also provided. Studio 1 introduces SNR (Stereo Noise Reduction), a proprietary algorithm developed by SDR Applications; its purpose is the improvement of the S/N ratio in broadcast stereo FM reception. It works actively only on the L-R (difference) signal component encoded in the 38 KHz sub-carrier. If properly used the SNR can greatly improve reception in marginal conditions while maintaining a good stereo separation. Currently the algorithm is at his first implementation (Type I) but further development is planned.

Outstanding AGC

The new dual stage AGC  developed for Studio 1 offers excellent signal tracking; four settings with independent adjustments for attack, hold and release are available (off - fast - mid - slow). Transients are suppressed by the second stage without distortion, so that relatively long attack times can be used without annoying audio disturbances.  Max gain is fully adjustable up to 120 dB.

The most versatile Synchronous AM in the category

For Studio 1 we have developed a complex, yet useable new SAM demodulation algorithm that offers a versatility previously unavailable in similar applications. The SAM PLL has its own selectivity filter and AGC; its step response can also be adjusted; all these parameters can be adjusted for the specific reception needs. In "fast" mode the PLL can track phase-modulated carriers that contain embedded data streams (for example BBC on 198 KHz), avoiding the demodulation of that noisy unwanted signals. SAM works on upper, lower or both sidebands modes; in each mode the bandwidth is fully adjustable.

SNR

Studio 1 introduces SNR (Stereo Noise Reduction), a proprietary algorithm developed by SDR Applications; its purpose is the improvement of the S/N ratio in broadcast stereo FM reception. It works actively only on the L-R (difference) signal component encoded in the 38 KHz sub-carrier. If properly used the SNR can greatly improve reception in marginal conditions while maintaining a good stereo separation. Currently the algorithm is at his first implementation (Type I) but further development is planned.


Notch Filters

Four identical, totally redesigned manual notch filters are available in Studio 1. The new notches are much steep in comparison to those built in WRplus, the notch width much more effective and the -3dB bandwidth can be adjusted down to one hertz!

Additional features that will be added very soon include:

CAT control for external radios via Omnirig - Woodboxradio TMate support - Various tuning options including offsets, IF mode etc.
